A number of physicians come from co-dependent family backgrounds and run successful practices. How does one deal w/ childhood traumatic experiences evoked by medical practice situations combined with the rapid rate of change in medical practice by EMRs, insurance, pre-uthorizations, responding to medication denials etc
Hmmmm . . . though I don’t expect any resonance here, have been working with this a long time and sincerely wonder how you might respond. The desire to “lead . . . a more inspired and fulfilling life” was a driving force for decades . . . until something changed inside, and that desire itself seemed ‘off course’ and even antithetical to living MINDFULLY.
After watching Kaleigh Isaac and Rick Hanson talk I really felt the teachings were memorized mainly due to Rick Hanson’s sense of disponiblility and presence for himself and people watching on line . It gives me insights to continue practice in order how ” works ” my “mind”( habitual patterns 🙂 yet also learning more about scientific knowledge about the human brain. Merci à tous for this opportunity.

I have listened to a number of presentations on healing and growth. I found Dr. Hanson’s Model outstanding and very understandable and will look into the course
offering. The 12 Pillars of WellBeing are so critical in our world. Thank yu.
Love my work passionately. When creating professional development often find I’ve worked through the night, lose awareness of the need to eat when preparing during the day. Test conditions demonstrate that in this state my BP soars to very high levels. Would appreciate the insight of another. Thank you.
Hi I’ve a PhD in Psychology, from Australia but at the moment I’m at home looking at my 8 children. I’m also also person whose suffered childhood abuse. I’ve learnt enough to know that neuroplasitocity can change my life. If you were to suggest a key daily practice what would it be?
I am bathing in gratefulness now! I will treasure my virtual moment with Rick Hansen. Your work has given me hope I can change. I love to hear your podcasts and I will check out your course
Thank you for this opportunity to listen to your expertise. I am a teacher in Nebraska and would love to earn a graduate degree and expand my knowledge of mindfulness and self-care to best support teachers. Are there any programs you would recommend? Thank you!
WOW1 The social movement I’m starting called The Great Neighbour Project demonstrates the application of your work in the first concentric circle of influence outside the home – the neighbourhood. The motto of the GNP comes from Desiderada: “as far as possible, WITHOUT SURRENDER, be on good terms with all people”, I would love to speak with you about the inter-connectedness of our work…
What is a good resource for becoming a certified mindfulness teacher/leader (online or short courses in person)? There are loads of sites online that do not seem legitimate. in my upcoming retirement, I would like to continue my education and serve kids and families through mindfulness.
Hi Dr Hansen … thanks for doing this. I’m a contract provider to the Whole Health department at the Tampa VA hospital.
I teach MBSR, Mindfulness, and Trauma conscious yoga to outpatients..
My Level 1 and Level 2 MBSR training was from Kathy Ward, Mindful Academy International in Albir, Sp. She talks very highly of you.
From Portland, Oregon: More thank you’s than I can quickly name, Rick (and Forrest), for benefits from your offerings to my clients, via me to family members; and of course, to me personally.
Question. Thanks for you essential teachings–you make a huge difference in this crazy world of ours! Questions: I have a wonderfully gifted young friend (17) who is sometimes paralyzed by anxiety, uneasy in crowds etc. I have introduced her to your basic method of recognizing right now everything is safe and all right. What else would you suggest for helping her work with anxiety?
Alex from Burlington, Vermont. What thoughts do you have on “stream entry”? How can those who’ve had such an experience grow that psychological resource?
Bienvenidos from Miami! This is Suzanne and I’d like to explore how the pillars of wellbeing might support the resilience of my Community as we face rising tides and climate change right in our own back yard.

Thank you for your suggestion, Riitta. I’ve looked at Treleaven’s book. He himself acknowledges that it does not really address developmental/early sustained trauma. It’s more oriented toward those with later “shock” traumas.
Hello,
I’m Carolyn from Maryland. Thank you, Dr. Hanson, for inspiring so many with your work and teaching over the years. I look forward to learning from you this afternoon.
My name is Brenda. My question is how can we implement mindfulness in a meaningful way to minimize the effects of trauma in global crisis such as refugee camps? Thank you for your input,
A retired social worker, I have many years of mindfulness practice. My morning gurus are my cats who invite me to stroke them and listen to their purring.
Hi this Rebekah from Dublin, Ireland. I’m grateful for this opportunity to learn more about mindfulness, compassion and resilience. I was wondering if you had any tips for a junior doctor trying to bring more mindfulness and compassion into the workplace (e.g. short practices that could be easily incorporated in a busy day and shared with team members to foster a more positive and supportive work environment)?
What do you think of the idea posited in the Guardian yesterday about mindfulness, that “It is sold as a force that can help us cope with the ravages of capitalism, but with its inward focus, mindful meditation may be the enemy of activism.” ? Thank you.
Thank you Dr. Hanson for doing this Q&A for us! My question is I have practiced mindfulness meditation off and on for 40 years and feel it has allowed me to approach my daily life with immense clarity. I’ll be leading a group soon and wonder what is the best way to teach them to have awareness. Do you have the best success encouraging and supporting a very short meditation practice and gradually get longer? How about modeling a few minutes of guidance and practice during our calls? Aloha!
I have anxiety everyday it is from past trauma when i was younger , certain places and people i don’t even know trigger
my anxiety, as i am on medication it helps somewhat as “mindful meditation “works when i start to feel depressed or anxious as it is only
for the time being that it helps, would you know of any other options or referrals. I do see a Therapist and a Psychologist already.
Thank you Dr. Hanson.
My name is Donn, and I am from Victoria, BC. I am looking forward to this discussion and applying slowing down with mindfulness on every occasion.

Good afternoon.
My work is chiefly in resilience and recovery, with emphasis on appropriate goal achievement.
Am very interested to hear the parasympathetic/sympathetic balance, and possibly, the interrelation between enteric, cardiac, and cranial minds (via the vagus nerve and other means), being discussed, today.
Thank you.
Hi! My name is Irina from Argentina
I have incorporated Mindfulness in my life, however, my health conditions is not so good as I wish, and therefore, there is a moment that desperate feelings appear.
Hello, I am interested to hear how mindfulness and self caring can help me discern how best to deal with a husband of 20 years who rages, yells and refuses to talk about how his behavior is hurtful to me and our children. I have been trying to make the best of our relationship by “looking for the good” and “sweeping (his angry outbursts) under the carpet” but I’m at the point where I no longer want to talk to him or to spend time around him and I don’t think that’s s good plan for the future. Can I use these teachings to support me trying to find a new way to relate to my husband who in the past has started to attack me when I’ve brought up how his yelling makes me feel unsafe?
To me, mindful inner awareness and meditation are the same. I am not trying to stop the thoughts but rather watch them, observe, accept what I observe, and let go of that judgmental critical voice. If a thought is not true, or useful or kind, I let it go. At 85+, I choose not to spend my one, wild, precious life lost in the past or speculating about the future. I choose to live in the present even when it’s uncomfortable or not what I prefer. for me, this is mediation, on or off the cushion, on or off the mat, in and out of the store, up and down the stairs!
I look after patients on a post surgical orthopedic ward. Often the patients are on anxiolytics, antidepressants, marijuana, pain killers that may or may not include opiates… Are there some ways to help control their immediate and longer term pain?
QUESTION & COMMENT: I’ve taught elementary grades in Texas for 20 years. It seems that each year we have more and more students with attention and focus difficulties. I’ve taught and my classes practiced basic mindfulness meditation on a daily basis for the past 3 years. Almost all of my students loved and benefited from it, but my students with focus and attention issues seemed to benefit the most after several months. Can you please speak to the value of mindfulness meditation and practice for children with attention and focus issues in addition to or even instead of medication?
Hello from Japan! I have a question: Is just meditation effective to change your mind and brain? In the current educational settings in Japan, it is extremely difficult to bring mindfulness while meditation is more likely to be accepted. My focus is higher education.
Question & Comment: I teach elementary grades in Texas. It seems we have more and more students who have difficulties with attention and focus. I have used very basic mindfulness meditation in my class on a daily basis for 3 years now, and it seems to be of benefit to those students in particular. Can you speak to the value of mindfulness meditation and practice for children with diagnosed and undiagnosed attention issues? Thanks much!
Comment and Question: I teach in an elementary school in Texas. It seems we have more and more students who have difficulty with attention and maintaining focus. I’ve been using basic mindfulness meditations in my classroom for 3 years now and it seems to help those students in particular. Can you speak to the value of mindfulness for students with diagnosed and undiagnosed attention issues, particularly in addition to or instead of medication? -Thanks much.
I’m Rolph from the Netherlands. My question is: how can I empty my mind? My mind always feels so full even though I meditate every day. It’s driving me crazy.
Hello, this is Martina from Austria. Do you have any advice or tips to be focused on your studies, e. g. if you have to learn for an exam. How would an ideal learning day look like? Happy to take part in this event and thanks a lot for offering this for free! 🙂
Hello, I hope that I will make it later to the session, however the time may not work for me in the UK. I am wondering if you would comment on the similarities and differences between ‘being in the zone’ (e.g. while running or playing tennis) and being mindful.
Mindyeti.com It’s free or you can subscribe. The meditation is mindfulness and it is designed for kids. Almost all of my students love it. It is in English.

very helpful: „Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness“ of David Treleaven:)
Hi: interested to hear what you may have to say about hypervigilence and startle reflex due to narcissistic abuse.
